Glastonbury sells half of all tickets with eight months to go

6 10 2008

LONDON (AFP) – - Half the tickets for Britain’s Glastonbury music festival were snapped up Sunday on the first day they went on sale, organisers said — despite the event not taking place for another eight months.

By early evening, more than half of the 137,500 places for the five-day music and arts fest in June had been either sold or reserved, even though none of the acts have yet been confirmed.

“It’s brilliant that here we are in October talking about a festival that isn’t happening until next year,” said Glastonbury spokesman John Shearlaw.

For the third year running, anyone wanting to attend must first pre-register to stop black market ticket sellers.

“It’s really exciting that people are still remembering one of the best festivals we’ve ever held and are clearly already looking forward to the next one,” said Michael Eavis, who runs the event in the west of England.

“June saw the most diverse audience for 10 years or so, and hopefully this new fairer ticket system will mean that we have a great crowd again in 2009.”

More than 130,000 music fans converged on the Eavis family’s Worthy Farm this summer to watch acts including Jay-Z, Amy Winehouse and Leonard Cohen.

The 175-pound (300-dollar, 230-euro) tickets can be bought for another week or reserved for 50 pounds, and any remaining ones will go on sale in April.

How kawan-kawan? Still got half of tix to be sold. Eilei asked me if I wana go. Entahlah. 3 big issues, 1. Money, 2. I want K to be there too but seeing as he starts teacher-hood in Jan 09, not sure if he can go, or actually, want to go, 3. I am actually quite scared of big fests overseas and am always asking myself whether it’s worth it. -_-”

I dunno la i dunno la! (K’s fave I-dun-wan-to-think-about-this-now phrase)

I go do some work and think.

PS My house getting prettier! Am gearing up for the housewarming/openhouse yay!
