Few artists in rock ‘n’ roll can carry off a single name, and carry it with gravitas. That is except Slash. And few guitarists command as much respect as Slash.

The original member of Guns N’ Roses and one of hard rock’s finest guitarists is set to rock Singapore for the very first time on August 2, 2010 at Fort Canning Park!

Slash is touring in support of his highly acclaimed recently released solo self titled debut album. Slash’s touring band includes Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy (vocals), Bobby Schneck (guitar), Todd Kerns (bass) and Brent Fitz (drums).

Slash has confirmed he plans to incorporate material from GUNS N’ ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER, SLASH’S SNAKEPIT and his new solo album on the set-list of the upcoming tour.

Set to open for Slash are American progressive rockers Coheed And Cambria. Consisting of Claudio Sanchez (vocals & guitar), Travis Stever (guitar), Michael Todd (bass) and Chris Pennie (drums), the band recently released their fifth studio album Year Of The Black Rainbow.

Since emerging into the frontline of iconic rockers with the late-‘80s surge of his seminal band Guns N’ Roses, Slash has been one of the world’s most sought after guitarists. Iconic musicians are often looking to Slash to add that special touch to recordings. From Michael Jackson to Ray Charles to Stevie Wonder, directors Quentin Tarantino and Darren Aronofsky, the top figures in modern music and popular culture have demanded the definitive rock guitarist of a generation.

Critics and fans alike still debate the best rock riffs of all time with “Sweet Child O’ Mine” consistently taking top honors. And a Time Magazine survey placed Slash second only to Jimi Hendrix among electric guitarists.

And while Slash has seen overwhelming career success already, Slash, is the artist’s first true solo album. Artists on the album include a who’s who of contemporary rock music. Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Kid Rock, Dave Grohl, Motorhead’s Lemmy Killmeister, Chris Cornell, Duff McKagan, Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy, Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale.

Slash himself is ever modest about his place in rock history, loathes to even consider it. Come August 2nd in Singapore at Fort Canning Park, the thousands of fans in attendance will have no doubts on his legendary rock n’ roll status.

Due to overwhelming demand, BOEING BOEING was presented in 2005 at the Victoria Theatre, Singapore, where it also sold-out 22 performances. When Elmo and his Sesame Street Live friends think about growing up, it’s a musical show-and-tell!

Bert dreams of becoming a forest ranger, Telly longs to be a cowboy and their newest friend, Abby Cadabby, wants to be a Fairy Godmother just like her mommy. Elmo thinks about becoming a ‘weather monster,’ but has a hard time predicting his own forecast–he wants to be anything and everything all at once! “When Elmo Grows Up” includes lessons on perseverance, teamwork and the power of imagination. Children will learn that if they believe in themselves and are willing to try, the possibilities are endless.

UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE
Edward Albee’s The Lady from Dubuque

Love, hate, and twisted games in Sam and Jo’s trendy New York apartment. 3 fashionable but desperate couples claw their way through a night of alcohol and secrets. Will their friendships survive? Will their marriages crumble? Will the devastating truth that they are denying eventually consume them all?

Into this emotional minefield steps the elegantly enigmatic Elizabeth and her ominous companion Oscar, claiming to be Jo’s relatives. They are warmly embraced by everyone but Sam. What does Sam know? Why will he not believe them?

Written by multiple Drama Desk Award, Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Edward Albee, this shocking play of games and intrigue explodes onto the stage in this bold young & W!LD production.

What Critics Have Said About The Play

“The Lady from Dubuque is a major work. It is not only fine theatre, savagely funny and affecting, but it is Albee’s best work since Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” – Gerald Clarke, Time Magazine

“The Lady from Dubuque is as unforgettable as it is eloquent. Here is a lay of stature brilliantly written.” – William Raidy, Star-Ledger

“Not in several seasons has a drama so surely and ruthlessly commandeered he unflagging attention, the involvement, the awe and the anguish of an audience. Even the humor slices like a scalpel ; we laugh without noticing – until a moment later that we are bleeding.” – Norman Nadel, National Endowment for the Arts

Simply Red Farewell Tour
Simply Red Bring The Curtain Down After 25 Years

Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye…

“Welcome to the final year of twenty five mind blowing years,” says Mick Hucknall of Simply Red’s final shows. “What an adventure it has been!”

Simply Red’s classic pop and elegant ballads have provided an uplifting and emotional soundtrack to our turbulent times. The band will say their farewells all over the world this year, after what has been a remarkable 25 years.

Since their first tour in 1985, Simply Red have played over 1,100 shows to over 11 million people, notched up over 55 million global sales, over 31 Top 40 UK singles, 3 BRIT Awards, 2 Ivor Novellos, 2 US No.1 Singles and a MOBO Special Achievement.

Simply Red’s Farewell date is:
Tuesday September 28 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium

“I could never have imagined my career would bring me so far,” added Mick Hucknall. “We want to share this closing anniversary with all the people who have enjoyed our sound throughout the years. Celebrate it and gently move on to the second half of a musical story. We all hope to see you at a show somewhere soon.”

Simply Red grew out of Manchester and their first UK university/club tour in 1985 and quickly graduated to Europe and the USA in 1986.

By 1987 they had conquered New Zealand and Australia and in 1989 they toured South America and Japan for the first time. By 1990 they had become a true global arena act and continued at that level until this day. They played sold out shows in Singapore on October 16, 1992 and April 30, 1996. Last year’s Greatest Hits tour notched up a further 1 million people across the World.

Simply Red will play their final Farewell shows after a quarter of a century of touring, allowing Mick Hucknall to pursue a solo career and begin a brand new chapter.

The band will play their final farewell shows in South America in April, then in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the UK from September to December.

“That’s the thing about Liang’s work: Those legs, those feet, all so visually beautiful – and we’re sure to see more of him” – Washington Post

From two outstanding Asian choreographers, Edwaard Liang and Xing Liang, come two brand new works for this double bill.

Liang was formerly with the New York City Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater I, while Xing is currently resident artist of City Contemporary Dance Company in Hong Kong. Both have received numerous accolades for their dancing and have been steadily gaining international recognition for their choreography. Named one of the “Top 25 to Watch” in 2006 by Dance Magazine for choreography, Liang has created works for his previous companies and others such as the Kirov Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet, the Shanghai Ballet and the Washington Ballet. Xing’s first full-length work with his company in 2006, Nijinsky, met with enthusiastic reception. His solo piece, Existence, at Dance Salad 2009 was applauded by Dance Europe for its “simplicity of form and conceptual depth…structured in amazingly fluid movements punctuated by finely detailed gestures”.

The works they have created for Refractions draw from Asian philosophies in distinctive ways. As Above, So Below by Liang is loosely based on the Buddhist notion of ‘bardo’, the world in between heaven and earth. Hauntingly beautiful and ethereal, it expands on an idea that was first explored in Distant Cries, a pas de deux he created for the New York City Ballet in 2005. Xing’s Nameless is inspired by Lao Tzu’s classic Tao Te Ching. It embraces the freedom and openness of creativity in a choreography that is imbued with an unbridled sense of curiosity and interactivity. Refractions is a collaboration between Singapore Dance Theatre and Esplanade.

Heritage – The North Indian Cuisine presents King of Sufi Music Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan – Live in Singapore at NUS- UCC. This event is promoted by Charkula Arts Academy, Singapore Pakistani Association, Mastana Entertainment and Vital Gear. Rahat’s music crosses boundaries and borders the world over and has unified the love of music into fans across the globe. A truly Sub-continental superstar, Rahat needs no introduction to the thousands of Singapore fans and we are privileged to get a slot in his grueling world tour.

The applause surges while the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra are still playing the final pages of Dum Mast Qalandar. By the close of this extraordinary concert by Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, nephew of legendary Qawwali singer Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, everyone is on their feet and cheering. “This isn’t just a concert,” says my neighbor. “It’s an act of worship.” She’s right. (John L Walters -The Guardian October 2009)

Nusrat, who died in 1997, attained a level of success equal to that of Pavarotti, the Beatles or John Coltrane. Rahat 36, (born, like his uncle, in Faisalabad, Pakistan) has the tough job of performing some of Nusrat’s best-known songs without coming across like a tribute act.

Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan comes to the shores of Singapore for the very first time with his group of twelve musicians to perform a mixed repertoire of memorable Qawwalis and his greatest Bollywood hits, from ‘Akhiyan Udeek Diyaan’ and ‘Saason Ki Mala Se Simroon Mein’ to ‘Jag Soona Soona Laage’ and ‘Jiya Dhadak Dhadak’ from blockbuster film’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Kalyug’, respectively.

Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has carved out a career not only as an exponent extraordinaire of Sufi qawwali music but also as an international artiste as evidenced by his work in Hollywood. His work includes Hollywood productions such as Dead Man Walking (with Nusrat), The Four Feathers and Mel Gibson’s Oscar nominated Apocalypto.

Live in Concert Singapore features Rahat presenting a beautiful balance between his acknowledged qawwali artistry and his extraordinarily successful Bollywood renditions.

Some of Nusrat songs that he has now made his own, like the stomping Afreen Afreen, have the excitement and subtlety of a great jazz performance. But this will not be a night for small gestures: the ecstatic spontaneous response to songs such as his version f Dum Mast Qalandar is not to be missed.

Rahat today is the equivalent of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Ludacrisrolled up and stuffed into one nicely embroidered kurta. Big, big dog.of Qawwali- JOHN P. MCLAUGHLIN- The Province

He bursts on the stage like a deluge from a collapsed dam and whet the musical appetite of every fan who had, since the announcement of the concert, waited eagerly to hear the star perform-K.B Nair India Journal Los Angeles.

Adil, Sara and Halim are spending the day at the Sentosa beach! While challenging each other to build sandcastles, Adil stumbles upon an old golden key. A butterfly then lands on Sara’s shoulder. And so begins their adventure into the land of PeriPari!

Come along with them on a journey to a land where Malay idioms come alive and nothing is what it seems! Filled with dancing trees, singing frogs and even mousedeers dressed as fairies, Adil, Sara and Halim learn that language can be fun, tradition can be hip and most importantly, that friendship goes a long way.

A play that aims to share the Malay language and tradition in a thoroughly fun and exciting way, Kunci DuniaKu is a treat for the young and old. Written and directed by local playwright Zizi Azah, the performance incorporates the use of traditional games to introduce common idioms, metaphors and literary devices in the Malay language. “Tiji Tibeh, Mati Siji, Mati Kabeh…”
For when one is gone, the others are also gone; where one is blessed, the others are blessed as well…
Such are the words of a vow said by the valiant soldiers of R M Said, the first King of Java. But in love as in war, the words ring true. A gripping story of passion, loss and courage, Matah Ati takes audiences on an epic journey back in time to 17th century Java. Through operatic Javanese song and music combined with a contemporary adaptation of Surakartan-Javanese classical dance styles, this tale of victory in love and war is told through the life story of central character Rubiah, a female war hero of the 40-woman army which fought during the time of the Dutch invasion and the reign of the Mangkunegaran Kingdom in Indonesia.Written and produced by Atilah Soeryadjaya, a direct descendant of the Mangkunegaran royal family and court dancer in the Surakarta Palace, Matah Ati is a tribute to the sacred artistry of the Javanese, in a performance that is simultaneously theatrical in expression yet meditative in its tone.

Two singers. Two eras. Two pairs of white shoes as their mark of individuality.

Coming together on the same stage are popular 60s-70s era artist, Datok Ahmad Jais and folk singer-songwriter Zaibaktian who won Ria 89.7’s best new artist award in 2008. Seemingly polar opposites, the two men have more in common than meets the eye, especially when it comes to forging their creative identity.

At a time when western music played a heavy influence on local singers, Ahmad Jais stood out when he insisted on singing Malay music in all of its traditional glory. Similarly, Zaibaktian is also an artiste who is intent on finding his own unique voice in a time where cookie-cutter hit singles often rule the airwaves.

Get to know this unlikely pair as they share an intimate conversation through their music.

A father and son relationship unfolds through personal anecdotes and a shared love for the tradition of asli songs!

With his crooning vocals and persuasive ballads, R Ismail was a soulful heartthrob in his day. His love duets such as Gurindam Jiwa and Gunung Banang with divas of yesteryears like Rafeah Buang, Saloma and Kartina Dahari are evergreen favourites, which also featured in classic Malay movies.

It comes as no surprise then when his son Elfee, won the first regional Malay Traditional Song Singing Competition, beating singers from Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. Elfee has definitely inherited his father’s lilting vocals that suit traditional Malay songs of the asli genre.

The father and son pair will be singing solo and in duet, accompanied by Orkestra Melayu Singapura.
