Fatimah travels on a kiddie ride with a lion she has named Mr Minismen and meets people who are representative sections of Singapore society, e.g. the maid, the prosperous wife, the religious man, the taxi driver, the tireless yuppie.

How Did the Cat Get So Fat? seeks to examine how the national pledge applies to and manifests itself in various strata of Singapore society, seen through the eyes of a young girl.

The Cure (1 Aug 07)

DATE – 01 Aug 2007 8pm

VENUESingapore Indoor Stadium

TICKET PRICE (Exclude Booking Fee)Standard – S$178, S$148, S$118, S$78

Legendary British post-punk / alternative rock band The Cure will be performing live in Singapore for the first time ever on August 1st 2007 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The current line up includes Robert Smith (vocals, guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Porl Thompson (guitar), Jason Cooper (drums).
It all started in 1976 when Robert Smith formed the Easy Cure with schoolmates Michael Dempsey, Lol Tolhurst and Porl Thompson. Just 2 years later the band dropped the ‘Easy’ and signed to Polydor’s new Fiction label and the rest is history. The Cure’s popularity increased as the decade wore on, especially in the United States, where the songs “Just Like Heaven”, “Lovesong” and “Friday I’m In Love” entered the Billboard Top 40 charts. By the start of the 1990s, The Cure were one of the most popular alternative bands in the world, with an estimated 27 million albums sold as of 2004. As of 2007 The Cure have released twelve studio albums and over thirty singles, with a thirteenth album in the works.

The Cure has served as a major influence on many artists that have emerged during the band’s thirty year career, including Blink 182, Jane’s Addiction, The Smashing Pumpkins, AFI, Interpol, The Rapture and many others.

Tying up virtually all of the loose ends from the Fiction/Polydor years, The Cure released the fascinating 4-CD box set, “Join the Dots” in early 2004. A lovingly compiled compendium of hard to find B-sides, rarities and re-mixes, it effectively cleared the way for the great leap forward represented by the latest album – The Cure.

In May 2004 The Cure signed a global three album deal with Geffen records… as the story continues…

The Pillowman (9-25 Nov 07)

DATE: 09 Nov – 25 Nov 2007 Tues – Fri, 8pm. Sat, 4pm & 8pm. Sun, 8pm

The Pillowman (Olivier Award winner for Best Play in 2004) played to rave reviews in London and New York. The Asian premiere is directed by Tracie Pang (Best Director nominee ST Life! Theatre Awards 2007), and features the top talents of the Singapore stage – Adrian Pang (first theatre role after winning the ST Life! Best Actor Award 2007), Michael Corbidge, Daniel Jenkins and Shane Mardjuki.

With the twists of a thriller, and the twisted logic of a horror film, The Pillowman is darkly funny and surprisingly poignant. Katurian, a writer of terrifying short stories, has been newly imprisoned and is questioned by the police, who scale new heights of brutality – and black humour – with their version of the good cop/bad cop mind game. Along the way, the reasons for the storyteller’s capture are revealed in a viciously entertaining cat-and-mouse game that has you on the edge of your seat.

Quite unalike to anything seen before on a stage, The Pillowman will inhabit your dreams long after you have experienced it.

Astreal – Lover and the Sea (30 Nov 07)

DATE: 30 Nov 2007 , 9.30pm

VENUE: Esplanade Recital Studio

TICKET PRICE – S$25

Like its name suggests, Astreal’s brand of indie-rock transports the listener out of this world to stellar regions. Formed in 1992, these ardent shoegazers have been wandering, probing, forcing new sounds out of the effects pedals to bring audiences saturated sound flashes.

Their first two demos, Dive Gemma (1993) and Chlorine Explosion (1994), and one sugary dream pop album, Ouijablush, featured twin guitar attack, angel-on-acid vocals, and loose-limbed rhythms. After that, Astreal proceeded to destroy everything saccharine with their sophomore album Fragments of the Same Dead Star, which reflects the band’s progression into darker grooves. This album was lauded as being one of the best local releases by IS Magazine, MTVAsia and Music For America.

Astreal is Ginette Chittick on bass and vocals, Muhammad Alkhatib on guitar and Redzuan Hussin on drums.
